Amazon Unveils Alexa Tablets With Full Google Play Access

Amazon has unveiled a new line of Alexa tablets running Android with full access to the Google Play Store, breaking with its longstanding Fire tablet formula.
The lineup includes the Alexa Tablet 8 at $229.99, the Alexa Tablet 11 at $329.99, and the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro at $499.99, with a Nanomatte anti-glare version at $549.99.
All three have aluminum bodies and built-in Alexa+, Amazon's generative AI assistant. The 12 Pro supports a magnetically attachable Pro Keyboard ($149.99) and Pro Pen ($89.99).
Amazon says the tablets ship on October 14 in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and October 19 in Europe.
The move ends more than a decade of Fire tablets running Amazon's own Fire OS with the Amazon Appstore, a limitation that long kept popular Google apps off the devices.
Four years of software updates are promised, according to Samsung-focused outlet SamMobile.
