Wallabies edge Springboks 42-38 after four late yellow cards
Australia beat world champions South Africa 42-38 in Perth on Sunday after surviving four yellow cards in the final 11 minutes. The Wallabies finished the test with only 11 men on the field before holding on late for a famous win.
The Wallabies led 42-17 after 64 minutes through tries including two from Len Ikitau. But captain Harry Wilson, Ryan Lonergan, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii and Hunter Paisami were all sin-binned late. South Africa scored three tries to close within four points.
Replacement prop Ox Nche crossed in the final minute to make it 42-38, but the Springboks ran out of time. Australia led 24-17 at half-time and reclaimed the Mandela Challenge Plate. Coach Les Kiss has now won all five tests in charge.
The result gives Australia a second win over South Africa in 13 months. They now head home as serious contenders for next year's World Cup, which opens in Perth.
