Turkey Sacks Coach Montella After Four Straight Defeats

Turkey has sacked national coach Vincenzo Montella, the Turkish Football Federation said on Friday, ending his three-year spell in charge.
The federation said its executive board had decided not to continue with the Italian coach. It gave no reason for the decision and did not name a replacement.
The move followed four consecutive Nations League defeats, including a 3-1 loss to Italy on Tuesday. Turkey lost to France, Belgium and Italy twice, conceding 11 goals and scoring just two.
Montella, 52, was appointed in September 2023 and led Turkey to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, where the Netherlands knocked them out 2-1.
His tenure also covered a poor 2026 World Cup, where Turkey were the first team eliminated from the group stage despite beating co-hosts the United States.
Turkish media report that Shakhtar Donetsk manager and former national team captain Arda Turan is the leading candidate to replace him.
