Former England winger Raheem Sterling has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after a Lamborghini crash on the M3 motorway in May.

Sterling, 31, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on September 15. He admitted driving his Lamborghini Urus dangerously on the M25, the M3, the A327 and Minley Road before the crash on May 28, according to court reports.

He also admitted possessing six nitrous oxide canisters for wrongful inhalation, a Class C drug, and failing to provide a specimen. Hampshire Police said the single-vehicle collision near the Minley interchange involved no other vehicles and caused no injuries.

Sterling scored 20 goals in 82 appearances for England and won four Premier League titles with Manchester City. He is currently without a club after a short spell with Feyenoord.

Why it matters: the guilty plea closes the question of liability and moves the case to sentencing, ending one difficult chapter for the former England star.
