Smriti Mandhana became the first woman cricketer to score 11,000 international runs on September 22, as India defended their Asian Games gold medal with a crushing 147-run win over Sri Lanka in the final at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin.

Mandhana needed 13 runs to reach the landmark and got there in style, smashing 79 off 45 balls with five fours and seven sixes. India posted 216 for 3 before bowling out Sri Lanka, sealing the biggest-ever margin of victory by runs for India in T20Is and a second consecutive Asian Games gold.

The milestone capped a remarkable fortnight for the 30-year-old. On September 20, in the semi-final against Bangladesh, she passed New Zealand’s Suzie Bates to become the leading run-scorer in women’s T20Is and brought up 100 sixes in the format.

Earlier, on September 3, her 124 off 64 balls against Hong Kong at the Asia Cup took her past Mithali Raj’s tally of 10,868 to become the all-time leading run-scorer across formats in women’s cricket.
