Shreyas Iyer’s 43-Ball Century Powers India Past West Indies

Captain Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls as India crushed West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I at Lucknow on Tuesday. India chased down 172 in just 14.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Iyer reached his hundred in 42 balls, the second-fastest T20I century against West Indies after Tim David’s 37-ball effort, and the fastest by an Indian against them, beating KL Rahul’s 46-ball ton. He became only the third Indian captain to score a T20I hundred.
Ishan Kishan supported with an unbeaten 37 as India finished the chase with 32 balls to spare. Earlier, debutant Naman Dhir took 3 for 31 to restrict West Indies after India chose to bowl.
The win continued India’s strong home form ahead of a busy white-ball calendar. With New Zealand arriving later this month for five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests, the series gives the team management a chance to test combinations. The second T20I will see West Indies look to bounce back.
