Shreyas Iyer’s 42-Ball Ton Powers India to Eight-Wicket Win

Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls as India crushed West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. Chasing 172, India finished in just 14.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Iyer reached his century in 42 balls, the fastest by an Indian batter against West Indies in T20Is. He broke KL Rahul’s record of a 46-ball hundred set at Lauderhill in 2016. The India captain became only the third Indian captain to score a T20I century, after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
India lost both openers cheaply, but Iyer and Ishan Kishan added 137 runs for the third wicket. Kishan made 37 not out. Earlier, West Indies were bowled out for 171 in 19.1 overs, with debutant Naman Dhir taking 3 for 31.
Shai Hope made 52 and Sherfane Rutherford 56 for the visitors. The win stretched India’s T20I winning streak to ten matches. Iyer won the Player of the Match award. The second T20I is next in the series.
