Jesus welcomes Ronaldo back as Portugal name squad

Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has said Cristiano Ronaldo would be welcome back in the squad if he wants to return. The 41-year-old walked out on the team last week after being left as an unused substitute against Norway in Oslo on September 30.
Ronaldo did not travel with the squad for Sunday's 2-1 win, which confirmed Portugal's quarter-final spot with a fourth straight victory. Jesus named an unchanged 26-man squad on Monday for the November fixtures.
The coach insisted there is no rift. If he wants to come back, he will be welcome, Jesus said, adding that the door remains open to the country's record scorer. The squad announcement keeps that door visibly ajar.
Portugal face Denmark on November 14 and Wales on November 17. Ronaldo, now at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, has not commented publicly since leaving the camp.
The situation remains delicate. Portugal are through and winning without him, but no manager wants a public split with the greatest goalscorer in international football history. November's internationals will show whether the welcome is taken up.
