Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has revealed he lost 99 percent of everything he earned during his playing career, blaming bad agents and serious family problems. The 53-year-old spoke at the Portugal Football Summit in Lisbon this week. Carlos, a 2002 World Cup winner with Brazil, is estimated to have earned around 160 million euros during his career with clubs including Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Fenerbahce. He said: I had problems with people who emptied my bank account. I lost 99% of everything I earned from football. Carlos said the crisis hit suddenly. He went to bed one Thursday night and woke on Friday to a pile of documents he had never seen. He said: That’s when I realised I had lost my entire history. He also went through a divorce from his second wife, Mariana Luccon, in 2025, which added to the financial strain. Carlos said he had tried to prepare for life after football, earning a sporting director’s licence and building brand partnerships. He said: I made mistakes, and therefore I ask younger players not to do the same.
