Neeru Dhanda to Lead India at Asian Games Closing Ceremony

Shooter Neeru Dhanda will carry India’s flag at the closing ceremony of the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya today. The 27-year-old trap shooter won two gold medals and a silver at the Games.

The ceremony will be held at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM local time, which is 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM IST. It marks the end of the 20th edition of the continental Games.

Neeru won the women’s individual trap gold, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in the discipline. She topped qualification with 118 and scored 28 in the final, setting an Asian record. She then partnered Kynan Chenai to win the trap mixed team gold with 34 hits.

The ceremony will also feature the official handover to Doha, Qatar, which will host the 21st Asian Games in 2030. The OCA flag will be passed from the Japanese organisers to the Qatari delegation.

Neeru’s selection honours a breakthrough campaign for Indian shooting. She was informed of the honour by deputy chef de mission Anjali Bhagwat after returning to her hometown of Jind, Haryana.
