Shahzad hits fastest first-class century by a Pakistani

Pakistan Television’s Muhammad Shahzad has scored the fastest first-class century by a Pakistani batter, reaching three figures off just 49 balls in the President’s Trophy on September 24.
Shahzad broke the previous national record held by former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who needed 56 balls for his hundred against Australia in Abu Dhabi in 2014. The 49-ball effort also ranks as the eighth-fastest first-class century in world cricket history.
Coming in at 34 for 3 against Kingsmen Academy at Islamabad’s Diamond Cricket Ground, Shahzad finished with 114 off 62 balls, hitting 12 fours and eight sixes. He shared a 143-run stand with Mohammad Taha, who made 43.
It was the 22-year-old’s sixth first-class century in 21 matches. He came through the PCB’s age-group programme and played the 2020 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.
The innings puts Shahzad firmly on the selectors’ radar ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming international assignments.
