Man City guilty of 114 of 115 financial charges

Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 financial charges brought by the Premier League, following an independent commission hearing.
The verdict, announced on September 29, covers alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018. The club has appealed and maintains its innocence.
The commission found City used “sham” contracts to inflate revenue and arranged disguised funding schemes worth more than £830 million with commercial partners.
It also found that some club witnesses “knowingly gave untrue and dishonest evidence” during the investigation.
City claim to have “a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence” to clear their name. An appeal ruling is expected before the end of the year.
No sanctions have been imposed yet. Possible punishments include fines, points deductions, title stripping and even expulsion from the Premier League.
Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool were briefed on the verdict early and could seek compensation. Boss Enzo Maresca will address the squad before Saturday’s trip to Liverpool.
