Makhanya named Scotland’s Player of the Month

Rangers defender Olwethu Makhanya has been named Scottish Premiership Player of the Month for September after a brilliant start in Scotland.
The 22-year-old South African joined Rangers from MLS side Philadelphia Union in a £3 million summer move and has already played 11 games.
Makhanya helped Rangers win five straight league games with four clean sheets, including a 1-0 Old Firm derby win over Celtic that cut the gap at the top to two points.
Manager Derek McInnes, himself named Manager of the Month, praised Makhanya’s adaptation from the slower pace of MLS to Scottish football.
The Bafana Bafana international has contributed to seven clean sheets in all competitions and topped the club’s player power rankings.
His market value has quadrupled from €2 million to €8 million, with reports of Premier League interest already surfacing.
Rangers fans voted him their player of the season so far, with one supporter comparing him to club legend John Greig.
