Roy Keane has criticized Chelsea star Cole Palmer after the midfielder withdrew from England’s squad for the Nations League fixtures.
Speaking on ITV before England’s 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley, Keane dismissed Palmer’s influence. “I watched his last game against Brentford and if you think he’s going to get England to another level and win trophies, forget about it,” he said. “I like Palmer, he’s a talented boy, but he’s got far too many bad habits, for me.”
Palmer, 24, withdrew alongside Declan Rice, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Tino Livramento. The decision was reported as load management after an injury-hit 2025-26 season with groin and toe problems.
England manager Thomas Tuchel also warned Palmer that he misses “too many opportunities” with the national team. Palmer has now missed five of eight England camps under Tuchel.
Palmer has started the season in strong form for Chelsea under new manager Xabi Alonso, with four goals and two assists in seven matches.
