Kapil Pokhariya moved into the men’s 90kg semifinals at the Asian Games 2026 on Monday, assuring India a medal in the heavyweight division.

The Indian boxer defeated Iran’s Sam Istaki 5-0 in the round of 16, dominating all three rounds to set up his medal-clinching semifinal bout.

Kapil was joined in the semifinals by teammates Priya and Lovlina Borgohain, giving India three assured boxing medals from a single session at Aichi-Nagoya.

The result extended India’s strong showing on Day 10 of the Games. Lovlina defeated Korea’s Seong Suyeon to reach the women’s 75kg semifinals, while India’s men’s cricket team advanced to the semifinals after rain washed out their quarter-final against Afghanistan.

With three semifinal berths confirmed, India’s boxing squad now turns its attention to converting the assured medals into gold. Kapil’s power and ring craft in the 90kg division will be closely watched as he bids to top the podium.
