India claimed silver and bronze in the men’s javelin at the Asian Games on Monday. Yashvir Singh took silver with a personal best of 85.72m. Rohit Yadav won bronze with 84.35m.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won gold with 88.55m. He had also won gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

Neeraj Chopra missed the Games with an ankle ligament tear. He had withdrawn on August 29. This is the second straight Asian Games with two Indians on the javelin podium after Chopra and Kishore Jena’s one-two at Hangzhou.

Yashvir, 24, had won bronze at Glasgow 2026. Rohit, 25, missed the podium in Glasgow but bounced back in style. Defending Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan finished fourth with 80.29m, his best of the season.

The double podium capped a strong day for Indian athletics at the Games.

Yashvir said the silver was special because it came with a personal best. Rohit said missing the Glasgow podium had pushed him to train harder. India’s athletics chief praised both throwers for their calm under pressure.
