Sinner pulls out of Shanghai Masters with knee injury

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Rolex Shanghai Masters as his knee injury recovery continues. He confirmed the decision on his social channels on Saturday.
Sinner has not played competitively since defending his Wimbledon title against Alexander Zverev in July. The Italian is managing an inflammatory tendinopathy in his right knee with non-surgical therapy after consultations and rehab work in Milan and Turin.
He has already missed Montreal, Cincinnati, the US Open and the ATP 500 event in Beijing before pulling out of Shanghai. Sinner won the Shanghai title in 2024, beating Novak Djokovic in the final.
Withdrawing from Shanghai costs him only 50 ranking points. But he faces much bigger point defenses at Vienna, the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals. A longer absence could put his year-end No. 1 status under pressure.
His participation in the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh from October 21 to 24 is now uncertain. Sinner won the event in 2024 and 2025 and was drawn to start in the quarterfinals against Alex de Minaur.
