Jaiswal trains as wicketkeeper ahead of Ranji opener

Yashasvi Jaiswal is training as a wicketkeeper as Mumbai prepare for their Ranji Trophy opener against Chandigarh on October 11. The India opener has been seen doing keeping drills at the Wankhede Stadium.
Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad confirmed the move at the team’s pre-season press conference. He said Jaiswal wants to keep wickets for Mumbai or for the Indian team in the future, adding that the player had spoken about adding to his game.
Jaiswal kept wickets for about ten overs in one of Mumbai’s practice games. He has also bowled leg-spin in India’s nets and in a few matches, making keeping a possible third string to his game.
The 24-year-old will be available only for the first Ranji game before leaving for national duty. Lad said Jaiswal had called the selection committee himself to ask to play for Mumbai.
Mumbai, the 42-time champions, open their 2026-27 campaign in Elite Group D at home.
