Irani Cup: J&K 21/2 trail Rest of India by 216

Rest of India were bowled out for 237 on the opening day of the Irani Cup against Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar. At stumps on October 1, J&K were 21 for 2, trailing by 216 runs.
Rishabh Pant managed 15 off 36 balls as the Rest of India batting faltered on a helpful surface. J&K's bowlers exploited home conditions to keep the star-studded visitors in check.
The match marks the return of major domestic cricket to Srinagar after nearly 40 years, the first big game in the city since 1986. Local fans turned out in large numbers for the historic occasion.
J&K, the Ranji Trophy champions, will look to build a first-innings lead on day two. Rest of India need early wickets to stay in the contest for the prestigious season curtain-raiser. The five-day match is the traditional curtain-raiser to the domestic season. A result here would set the tone for both sides' campaigns.
