Iowa Stuns Michigan 20-19 on Final-Play Touchdown
No. 17 Iowa beat No. 18 Michigan 20-19 on Saturday after Hank Brown threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Reece Vander Zee on the game’s final play.
The Hawkeyes drove 91 yards in the closing minutes at Michigan Stadium. A 29-yard completion to Addison Ostrenga set up the winning play with two seconds left. An unnecessary roughness penalty against Michigan aided the drive.
Iowa (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) took its first lead early in the fourth quarter on Brown’s earlier touchdown pass to Vander Zee. Michigan answered when Bryce Underwood hit JJ Buchanan for a 49-yard score, but the two-point conversion failed.
Underwood threw two touchdown passes to Buchanan. Iowa’s defense then forced a punt to set up the final drive.
“To be able to silence a stadium like that, there’s no greater feeling,” Brown said.
Michigan fell to 3-1 (0-1 Big Ten). The loss came in the same stadium where the Wolverines benefited from an extra second in a controversial win over Western Michigan earlier this season.
