Iyer’s maiden T20I ton powers India past West Indies

Captain Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls as India thrashed West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium on October 6. India lead the five-match series 1-0.
Chasing 172, India completed the chase in just 14.4 overs. Iyer's maiden T20I century came off 42 balls, making it the fastest hundred by an Indian against West Indies in the format. He became only the third Indian captain to score a T20I century.
Iyer and Ishan Kishan stitched together an unbeaten 137-run stand for the third wicket after both openers fell early. Kishan scored 37 not out and completed 3,000 runs in international cricket during the chase.
Earlier, debutant Naman Dhir starred with the ball, taking 3 for 31 with his off-spin as West Indies were bowled out for 171 in 19.1 overs. Shai Hope made 52 and Sherfane Rutherford 56 for the visitors.
Kuldeep Yadav picked up 2 for 33 while Axar Patel took 2 for 26. India will look to extend their lead when the second T20I is played later this week.
