India to play six ODIs in South Africa before 2027 World Cup

India are set to play a six-match ODI series in South Africa ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, according to a report by The Indian Express. The series will be played at World Cup venues including Johannesburg, Cape Town and Centurion.
The dates and venues have not been officially confirmed. The series is expected to give Shubman Gill's side valuable preparation in local conditions ahead of the tournament, which starts on October 2, 2027.
India will open their World Cup campaign against defending champions Australia in Cape Town on October 7, 2027, and face Pakistan at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on October 10. The tournament is co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
India are placed in Group A with Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and a qualifier. South Africa will host 8 of the tournament's 12 venues.
India have a poor ODI record in South Africa, winning 13 of 39 matches on South African soil. The last time India played an ODI series there was in 2023, when a KL Rahul-led side won 2-1.
