Dan Wilson out as Mariners manager after 76-86 season
Dan Wilson will not return as manager of the Seattle Mariners next season, the club announced on Sunday after a disappointing 76-86 campaign.
The decision was confirmed shortly after Seattle closed the season with a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels, ending a year that began with genuine World Series hopes.
The Mariners reached Game 7 of the American League Championship Series in 2025 but regressed badly this season, finishing third in the AL West amid injuries and poor form from several star players. The club never recovered from a dreadful mid-season stretch that buried its playoff hopes.
“Collectively we failed to meet our own expectations this season,” president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said in a statement, adding that “a new direction is best for 2027 and beyond.”
Wilson, a Mariners Hall of Fame catcher, took over in August 2024 and finished with a 187-171 record. Seattle will now search for a new manager for the second time in three years.
