The Seattle Mariners announced on September 28 that Dan Wilson, 57, will not return as manager in 2027. The decision follows a 76-86 season, a third-place finish in the AL West and a missed playoff spot one year after the franchise reached Game 7 of the 2025 ALCS.

Wilson went 187-171 in two-plus seasons. He informed the players before the 7-3 season-finale win over the Angels. President of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said a new direction is best for 2027 and beyond.

The regression was broad. Cal Raleigh slumped to a .182 average with 23 home runs and 69 RBIs after his 60-homer 2025 season. Julio Rodriguez and Josh Naylor had career-worst years. Seattle scored 664 runs, the third-fewest in the majors, and the defense was minus-58 outs above average. Closer Andres Munoz blew 10 saves.

Wilson replaced Scott Servais in August 2024 with no managerial experience, then led the club to the 2025 AL West title, its first in 24 years. A day after his exit, the Mariners also let go four coaches. Chairman John Stanton invited Wilson to stay with the organization in another role.
