President Droupadi Murmu on Monday congratulated shooter Neeru Dhanda for her historic gold in the women’s trap individual event at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, calling it a moment of immense pride for the country.

Neeru clinched the gold with a score of 28 in the final, setting a new Asian record and becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual trap gold at the Asian Games. The President said the achievement would inspire young sportspersons across the country.

It was a remarkable day for the shooter, who also won a silver medal in the women’s trap team event earlier alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer, with a combined score of 328. She later added a gold in the trap mixed team event.

The President’s message highlighted the growing strength of Indian shooting on the continental stage, with the country’s marksmen and women consistently delivering medals.

Neeru’s record-breaking final underlined her composure under pressure, as she held her nerve in a strong field to seal India’s latest gold of the Games.
