Gill warns India over dropped catches before World Cup

Shubman Gill has warned India to fix their fielding before the 2027 ODI World Cup. The captain said dropping catches is “not a good sign” for a team with title aims.
India dropped three catches in the third ODI against West Indies in New Chandigarh on October 3. Gill said the team dropped six or seven catches across the series.
“Our fielding could be much better,” Gill said at the post-match presentation. “You want your fielding to be top-notch” going into a World Cup.
West Indies chased 352 to win by five wickets and deny India a clean sweep. Shai Hope hit an unbeaten 162. Dropped chances did not help India’s cause.
India missed Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel in the series. The trio were with the T20 squad that won Asian Games gold. Harshit Rana and Hardik Pandya are injured.
Gill said there is little time to experiment before the World Cup. He wants the first-choice combination playing from the next series.
India won the series 2-1. But the finale exposed the fielding frailties Gill wants fixed.
