Esha Singh wins 25m pistol silver after shoot-off at Asian Games
World No.1 Esha Singh won silver in the women’s 25m pistol at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday. The 21-year-old from Hyderabad lost a tense final to China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan.
The two were level at 38-38 after regulation. Xiao took the gold in a shoot-off by 3-2. North Korea’s Kim Hyon Gyong won the bronze.
Esha had qualified eighth with a score of 580. She was fourth at one stage and close to elimination. A perfect 5/5 series pulled her back into the medal fight. She then won a three-way shoot-off against Kim to reach the gold-medal duel.
It is her second individual Asian Games silver in the 25m pistol after 2023. The medal is her fifth at the Asian Games. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated her on X for the fighting show.
Esha is also the world record holder in the event. She said she will now focus on the team events.
