East Bengal Thrash NorthEast United 7-2, Reach Final

East Bengal stormed into the IFA Shield 2026 final with a 7-2 thrashing of NorthEast United in the semi-final at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan on Monday.

David Lalhlansanga led the rout with a hat-trick, scoring in the 12th, 46th and 56th minutes. Rohit Kumar, Chris Ikonomidis, Aké Loba and Łukasz Zwoliński also found the net. Alaaeddine Ajaraie scored both goals for NorthEast United, including one after just two minutes.

The win sets up a blockbuster Kolkata derby final against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant on October 8. Mohun Bagan beat Punjab on penalties in the other semi-final.

The match drew 4,563 fans. East Bengal’s attack was simply too sharp, and the scoreline could have been even bigger. The final promises a packed house and a fierce contest for the trophy.

The IFA Shield is among India’s oldest football tournaments, and this year’s final will have a special edge. Mohun Bagan had to survive a penalty shootout to reach it, while East Bengal have been free-scoring. A Kolkata derby final at a packed stadium is a dream ticket for fans. The organisers expect strong security and big crowds for the October 8 showdown.
