Lauren Coughlin became the first player in LPGA history to open a round with nine straight birdies, running the table at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on Saturday.

Starting her second round on the back nine at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas, the 33-year-old birdied the par-4 10th and didn’t make a par until the par-4 first. She made the turn in 9-under 26, the lowest nine-hole score in LPGA history.

Needing 3 under on her second nine to become the second player to break 60 on tour, Coughlin made just one more birdie and settled for a career-best 61. After opening with a 2-over 73 on Friday, she moved up 106 spots into a tie for 21st, eight shots behind leader Yuna Nishimura.

“Everything just seemed to be going exactly how far I wanted it to, right at the hole,” said Coughlin, who turns 34 on Sunday. “I started to get a little bit of adrenaline.”

A three-time LPGA Tour winner, Coughlin is coming off a strong Solheim Cup for the United States, playing all five sessions and going 3-1-1 in a losing effort.
