Brazil blank India 4-0 in Kolkata friendly

Five-time world champions Brazil beat India 4-0 in an international friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday, in the first-ever senior meeting between the two nations.
Chelsea winger Estevao opened the scoring in the 28th minute, cutting in from the right to beat Gurpreet Singh Sandhu at the near post. He then set up Pedro for the second goal three minutes before half-time. Samuel Lino scored twice in the second half, in the 58th minute and deep into stoppage time.
India, ranked 138th, started with spirit and held Brazil for the opening half hour. But the visitors grew stronger as the match wore on. Ryan Williams had India’s best chances but could not score a consolation goal.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti made eight changes from the team that beat Australia 4-2 on Tuesday. A crowd that Reuters put at 51,000 cheered the visitors as loudly as the home team.
The defeat extended India’s winless run to six matches. The team had shown promise in a 1-1 draw against Panama earlier in the break. AIFF had distributed free tickets to fill the stands for the historic clash.
