Bhuvneshwar Kumar Returns to India T20I Squad After Four Years

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named in India’s T20I squad for the five-match series in New Zealand, ending an absence of nearly four years from international cricket. The BCCI announced the 16-member squad on October 6.
The 36-year-old seamer last played for India in November 2022, also against New Zealand. His recall follows a strong IPL 2026 campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he took 28 wickets at an economy rate of 7.95. Bhuvneshwar has 90 wickets from 87 T20Is at an average of 23.10.
Shreyas Iyer will captain the side, with Tilak Varma as his deputy. The T20I leg begins on October 22 in Christchurch and is part of a 12-match tour that also includes five ODIs and two Tests. Former RCB teammate Dinesh Karthik praised the selectors for the brave call.
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the T20I series as part of workload management. Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy returns after missing the Asian Games with an injury.
