Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to India T20I squad after 4 years

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been recalled to India’s T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand, four years after his last international appearance. The BCCI named the 36-year-old in a 16-member squad on October 6.
India will play five T20Is in New Zealand from October 22 to November 1. Kumar last played for India in November 2022, also against New Zealand.
The recall follows two strong IPL seasons with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He took 28 wickets in the 2026 season at an economy rate of 7.95, playing a key role in the franchise’s title-winning run. In 87 T20Is for India, he has 90 wickets at an economy of 6.96.
Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy also returns after recovering from a side strain. Ravi Bishnoi has been left out, while Jasprit Bumrah is rested with Tests coming later on the tour.
Shreyas Iyer continues as captain with Tilak Varma as vice-captain. Dhruv Jurel will lead the India A side in three multi-day matches.
