BCCI worth $2.2 billion, 27 times richer than Cricket Australia

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is worth a staggering $2.2 billion, or about Rs 18,760 crore, making it by far the richest cricket board in the world.

The BCCI is 27 times richer than the second-placed Cricket Australia, valued at $79 million, while the England and Wales Cricket Board is worth $59 million. The board’s wealth is driven largely by the Indian Premier League, whose media rights for the 2023-27 cycle fetched $6.2 billion.

India’s massive cricket audience gives the BCCI unmatched bargaining power with broadcasters and sponsors. The financial muscle lets the board pay its players the highest match fees in the game and invest in stadiums and grassroots cricket.

Critics, however, say the concentration of wealth has skewed world cricket’s economics heavily in India’s favour.

The BCCI’s revenues also fund a large domestic cricket structure, with hundreds of matches played across age groups every season. Its financial dominance has given India an outsized voice in the International Cricket Council’s decision-making.
