Atlas FC Announce New 40,000-Seat Stadium for 2030

Liga MX club Atlas FC have announced plans for a new stadium in Zapopan that is expected to open in 2030, ahead of the 2031 Women’s World Cup.

The Guadalajara club, celebrating its 110th anniversary, will anchor the stadium as part of the Universidad de Guadalajara’s Ciudad UdeG district. It has been designed by stadium architects Populous and will hold more than 40,000 fans.

Atlas will be the primary tenant. The university’s Leones Negros, who play in Mexico’s second division, will also use the ground.

Club president Jose Miguel Bejos, whose Grupo PRODI bought Atlas this summer, said no public money would be used. The project is estimated at $450 million, with ownership split 80-20 between PRODI and the university for 99 years.

Atlas will leave the historic Estadio Jalisco, which hosted matches at the 1970, 1986 and 2026 World Cups. They face rivals Chivas there on October 10.

The $450 million project will include food zones, a mariachi plaza and parking for 6,000 vehicles. Atlas face rivals Chivas in the clasico at the Estadio Jalisco on October 10.
