India's women's compound archery team successfully defended their Asian Games gold on September 30, beating China 238-234 in the final with a world-record-equalling score.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep held their nerve at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park, producing a perfect final end to deny China.

India's total of 238 equalled the women's compound team world record set by South Korea at the Incheon Asian Games in 2014.

India took a 30-28 lead in the opening end and never trailed, though Chikitha shot a nine early in the second end. Prithika and Jyothi found 10s throughout.

The trio had beaten South Korea in the semifinal to reach the final. China took silver, while South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei for bronze.

It was India's seventh gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games, with the overall tally at 53 medals. India had won silver in the event in 2018 and bronze in 2014 before gold in 2023.

Jyothi said afterwards the team stayed self-motivated and fought till the very end.
