Asian Games: Nitesh Wins Wrestling Silver for India

India’s Nitesh Siwach won silver in the men’s 97kg Greco-Roman wrestling final at the Asian Games in Nagoya on Thursday.
Nitesh lost 4-0 to Japan’s Yuri Nakazato in the gold-medal bout despite a strong defensive display. It was one of several medals for India on day 13. Ganesh Thirumuru won bronze in the men’s individual compound archery event. The women’s squash team settled for bronze after losing to Hong Kong in the semifinal.
The men’s skiff sailing pair of Manu Francis and Prince Noble won silver. Judoka Inungambi Takhellambam missed out on bronze in the women’s 70kg category, losing to Mongolia’s Anujin Uran-Ulzii.
India’s medal tally stood at 63, with 10 gold, 22 silver, and 31 bronze medals. The big event comes on Saturday, when India face Pakistan in the men’s T20 cricket final. It is the first India-Pakistan meeting in men’s cricket at the Asian Games.
Why it matters: with the cricket final and the bronze-medal matches ahead, India’s medal count is set to grow. The final weekend will decide how close India gets to its best-ever Games haul.
