Burkina Faso’s Late Flight Keeps Argentina Friendly in Doubt

Argentina’s friendly against Burkina Faso remains in doubt after the visiting team’s charter flight from Morocco was cancelled without notice on September 30.
Burkina Faso’s football federation confirmed the cancellation left the delegation stranded in Morocco. The sports ministry, the federation and the embassy then scrambled to find an emergency solution, and a replacement private flight left Morocco late on Friday on a Madrid-Morocco-Buenos Aires routing.
Organisers expect the team to land in Buenos Aires only on the day of the match, which is scheduled for Saturday at the Estadio Monumental. The stadium will operate at 50 per cent capacity because of a FIFA sanction.
Some players have refused to travel, unhappy with the rushed plan and with unfulfilled financial and organisational conditions from the Argentine federation.
Lionel Messi will not play in the fixture. He is being rested ahead of his official international farewell against Benin on October 6. Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is also a doubt with a suspected injury.
