President Donald Trump posted a 449-word Truth Social message Saturday denying reports that Florida gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds is distancing himself from him.

‘Another Fake Story is that a very close friend of mine, a man I endorsed very early, Byron Donalds, is taking me off his website and Campaign materials,’ Trump wrote.

Donalds’ revamped campaign homepage removed at least eight references to Trump, according to reporting based on archived versions of the site. The previous version had advertised him as a ‘TRUMP-ENDORSED Proven Conservative Fighter’ with a banner declaring ‘ENDORSED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP!’ and a photo of Donalds with the president.

Those elements disappeared in the redesign. Trump’s endorsement remained listed among other conservative endorsements but no longer dominated the homepage.

Trump offered no explanation for the website changes. He argued his standing in Florida remains strong and said two rallies were already planned for Donalds.

Donalds has taken a measured approach. On Tuesday he publicly reaffirmed his connection to Trump. He is one of several Republicans who have reduced Trump’s prominence in campaign materials ahead of the midterms.
