Trump Passed Over for Nobel Peace Prize He Long Coveted

United States President Donald Trump has been passed over for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to South African jurist Navi Pillay.
Trump had mounted a public campaign for the prize this week, telling reporters in the Oval Office on October 7 that he deserved it for settling conflicts around the world. He has claimed he settled eight conflicts, including the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and the Venezuela military operation.
“I don’t know what their decision’s going to be. They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me,” Trump said before the announcement, adding that not receiving it would be “a great discredit to them”.
Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna is among allies who said they nominated him for brokering the Gaza ceasefire and bringing hostages home. Leaders of Israel, Pakistan and Cambodia have also said they nominated him.
Trump acknowledged before the announcement that the award would most likely not go to him. The Norwegian Nobel Committee kept the identities of all 287 nominees confidential.
