Trump rallies in Nebraska for Ricketts in tight Senate race

President Donald Trump held a midterm rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, on Monday to campaign for Republican Senator Pete Ricketts, who faces a competitive challenge from independent Dan Osborn. The event took place at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center, with Trump speaking at 6 p.m. Central time.
The Nebraska Senate race has become unexpectedly close. A Wedgewood poll last month put Ricketts ahead by four points. Nebraska has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 2006.
Trump is also campaigning for Governor Jim Pillen, who faces a Democratic challenger. The Nebraska stop is part of a 32-day sprint to the November 3 midterms, during which Trump has urged Republicans to treat the vote as a referendum on his administration.
The national backdrop is difficult for Republicans. A Reuters/Ipsos poll last month found Trump's approval at a career-low 32 percent, with approval among Republicans slipping to 73 percent.
Trump carried Nebraska by more than 20 points in 2024, but public polling consistently shows a competitive contest. The outcome could shape the Senate majority.
