Trump teases ‘big surprises’ before November midterms

President Donald Trump promised “big surprises” before the November 3 midterm elections at a Maryland shipyard on October 6. He linked the surprises to OMB Director Russell Vought. Trump did not say what the surprises would be.
The President also repeated his pledge of $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans keep control of Congress. The payments would need Congress to approve them. No legislation has been introduced yet.
Trump also touted new spending plans in the speech. He said more than $12 million in government funds would go to pro-Trump television advertisements. He announced $500 refund checks linked to the Affordable Care Act. He also said one million seniors would get $90 payments.
The announcements come four weeks before the midterms. Polls suggest close races in both the House and Senate. Trump is betting the economic pledges will help Republicans hold Congress. Democrats have dismissed the promises as election-season tactics.
