Telangana Congress chief questions Shah over voter deletions

Telangana Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud has questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged deletion of eligible voters’ names in Telangana through the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. On September 28, Goud led a Congress march in Hyderabad from the Indira Gandhi statue to the Election Commission office, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka joined the protest.Goud alleged the Election Commission under Kumar was “functioning like an affiliate of the BJP.” He demanded Kumar’s removal and arrest, claiming elections in the last two years were manipulated.Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said about 49 percent of Telangana’s voters had their names deleted or faced deletion risk under SIR. He called the exercise a “Shah-instigated removal of voters.”The Election Commission says all SIR orders were approved by all three commissioners and that changes to Form 6 were upheld by the Supreme Court.
