Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka detained during protest march to EC

Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on October 6. They were marching toward the Election Commission headquarters. Police stopped the opposition march near Akashvani Bhawan in central Delhi. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was also part of the protest. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was detained too. Police said the march lacked permission for such a large gathering. More than 300 opposition MPs had planned to meet the Chief Election Commissioner. Rahul Gandhi accused the poll panel of conducting a biased voter roll revision. He demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He alleged large-scale deletion of voter names under the Special Intensive Revision. The Election Commission and the BJP deny the charges. The Commission says the revision removes duplicate and deceased voters. Rahul Gandhi climbed a police barricade during the protest. He waved the national flag as supporters cheered. The march was part of the INDIA bloc’s Save Democracy campaign. The party has planned block-level marches from October 10 to 20. It will also hold a mega rally in Delhi on November 1.
