Opposition marches to EC office as police lock down Delhi

New Delhi, October 6: Hundreds of security personnel fanned out across central Delhi on Tuesday as opposition lawmakers marched from Parliament to the Election Commission's office.
The march, set for 11 am, demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the controversial Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. Barricades were thrown up near the poll body's office. Television showed police with batons outside the barricaded building.
Congress and other parties allege the revised voter lists benefit Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP. The commission and the BJP have denied the charges.
The march caps a month-long protest plan announced by the INDIA bloc. District-level "save democracy" marches ran from October 2 to 8. A Delhi rally is planned for November 1.
Not all allies joined. The Aam Aadmi Party said it would skip the march and run its own protests. Authorities advised people to avoid the protest areas as some routes were shut.
