Voters in Nandigram and Rejinagar cast ballots today

Voting is underway in West Bengal’s Nandigram and Rejinagar assembly constituencies on Tuesday, with counting scheduled for October 9. A massive security deployment is in place across both seats.
A total of 71 Central Armed Police Force companies have been deployed — 37 in Nandigram and 34 in Rejinagar. More than 15,000 state police personnel are also on duty. Officials said central forces are present at every booth, with 100 per cent web-casting of polling.
About 24 per cent of booths are marked sensitive — 323 in Nandigram and 315 in Rejinagar. The Nandigram contest is four-cornered: the BJP’s Hasirani Rath, Congress’s Milan Pradhan, the CPI’s Shanti Gopal Giri and Ritabrata Banerjee’s Democratic TMC. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC faction is not contesting after its candidate withdrew.
Nandigram fell vacant after Suvendu Adhikari gave it up, choosing to keep Bhabanipur after winning both seats in the 2026 assembly polls. In Rejinagar, TMC’s Rabiul Alam Chowdhury is contesting after reversing an earlier withdrawal signal.
Counting on October 9 will decide both seats. Officials said polling will continue until 6 pm.
