Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to former Vishwa Hindu Parishad working president Ashok Singhal on his 100th birth anniversary during the 138th episode of his monthly radio broadcast 'Mann Ki Baat'. He called Singhal a great man who dedicated his life to culture, society and the nation, according to IANS.

Modi said Singhal, born in Agra on September 27, 1926, lived an 'ascetic life' — a simple, disciplined one. He said the 'direction and energy' Singhal gave to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement is 'the very reason for the magnificent temple in Ayodhya'.

The Prime Minister said he was 'extremely fortunate not only to witness his life from close quarters, but I also had the opportunity to join him in this mission'. He added that Singhal was constantly on his mind during the 2024 Ram temple consecration ceremony.

Modi also highlighted Singhal's fight against social discrimination and inequality. He noted that Singhal was an IIT BHU graduate from a prosperous family who renounced comfort to dedicate his life to society and culture. The tribute marks the centenary of the late leader's birth.
