SC Senate Race a Dead Heat After Graham’s Sister’s Rise

South Carolina’s Senate race has become a dead heat. Republican Darline Graham, sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, leads Democrat Annie Andrews by just 43.4% to 42.3% in a new Trafalgar Group poll.
Graham was appointed to the seat by Governor Henry McMaster after her brother’s sudden death from a heart condition on July 11. She then won the Republican runoff against Congressman Ralph Norman with President Donald Trump’s endorsement.
Andrews, a pediatrician and former congressional candidate, has campaigned on health care and affordability. An earlier August poll had the race tied at 41% each.
South Carolina has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998. Lindsey Graham won his 2020 re-election by more than 10 points.
With the midterms less than a month away, Republicans are scrambling to hold a seat once considered safe. Trump’s super PAC spent over $827,000 backing Graham in the runoff.
Fox News reported Nancy Mace questioned whether Graham is qualified for the ballot. Trump is visiting Myrtle Beach as the party rallies around its nominee.
