Judge restores CNN, MS NOW, Politico press credentials

A federal judge has blocked the White House from stripping press credentials from reporters at CNN, MS NOW and Politico.
Judge Kelly issued a temporary restraining order running through October 8. The order restores the reporters' access while the court hears arguments.
The White House had revoked the credentials as part of a broader crackdown on media access. Press groups called the move an attack on the First Amendment.
Despite the order, the administration barred Politico from travelling on Air Force One. The Justice Department is petitioning the court to reinstate the broader ban.
Media lawyers say the credential fight is part of a pattern. The administration has also restructured the press pool and limited question time at briefings.
The judge is expected to rule on a longer injunction after the October 8 hearing. News organisations say they will fight any permanent restrictions.
The White House Correspondents' Association welcomed the ruling as a win for press freedom. The administration has not said whether it will appeal the judge's order.
