India, Pakistan Summon Envoys After Border Shooting

Diplomatic tensions have flared between India and Pakistan after Border Security Force personnel shot two Pakistani men who crossed the International Border in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector on October 2.
India says three individuals entered Indian territory and kept moving toward the border fence despite repeated warnings. The BSF engaged them as an imminent security threat; the third person returned to Pakistan. India has described the incident as part of a pattern of cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates.
On October 3, India summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires Saad Ahmad Warraich in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest over continued facilitation of infiltration. Pakistan summoned India’s envoy in Islamabad the same day, calling the deceased unarmed civilians killed by unprovoked fire near Kasur, and demanded a transparent investigation.
The Ministry of External Affairs rejected Pakistan’s allegations as baseless and urged Islamabad to respect the sanctity of the international border.
