India, Canada to resume trade talks on Oct 5

Milwaukee, Oct 3 (IANS) — India and Canada will begin the next round of trade negotiations on October 5, as the two countries push to conclude a deal before the end of the year.
Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu announced the date after meeting Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee.
The meeting followed the fourth round of negotiations in Mumbai. Ottawa also plans to send a large business delegation to India this month.
Sidhu said both sides want to conclude a deal before the year ends. Two-way trade now stands at more than $30 billion. India and Canada have set a shared target of $70 billion by 2030.
Goyal held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines as India worked to deepen commercial ties with major partners and address questions facing the global trading system. Observers say a deal this year would mark the biggest reset in India-Canada economic ties in a decade. Both ministers are expected to meet again after the October 5 round to review progress.
